• Do you think the lack of affordable, adequate or safe housing affects you or your community?
• Have you, or are you currently living in government care?
• Would you like to produce a video within a community art project?
We are inviting young people (17 -27) who are interested in learning to create digital media on issues surrounding youth homelessness with youth who have experienced government care.
No experience necessary except the willingness to create stories from your perspective, stories that could lead to solutions and change.
The Housing Matters Media Project – will include:
o Media production mentorship and support in storytelling and technical skills with the goal of producing a short digital video exploring YOUR ideas around government care and the lack of affordable, safe, and adequate housing and/or solutions to this issue.
o The opportunity to create meaningful, important work as Art.
o This project will run from October 2013 to December 2013 and will include: a few evening workshops to get to know each other, learn (or improve) camera, audio recording, story production, and editing skills with professional artists, and three concentrated weekend workshops in October, November, and December.
o The work created will be screened at a gala in the spring as well as several other community gatherings.
o Your videos will be featured on the Housing Matters Media Project website
o And you may be invited to participate in future housing matters media projects. Including the design and building of a mini house art installation in 2015.
Interested? Please send us a short email describing your interest in the project and how you heard about it. You are also welcome to attach an audio or video file. Please don’t be shy. We are committed to creating a safe, diverse, and open community. We strongly encourage all youth to apply, regardless of experience.
